Hot meal distribution for needy and senior citizens from Nee Soon South Zone A RC
The hot meal distribution is held on one Sunday of every month from 12.00 pm to 2.00 pm.
Anybody who wishes
to sponsor the hot meal can contact Nee Soon South Zone A RC office at 6752 8414 from Monday to Friday ( 3.30
pm to 7.30 pm ).
The sponsored amount will depend on the individual. To adequately provide for one meal, the amount can
range from $500 to $1000.

Lions Club Changi Singapore kindly sponsored our September hotmeal which was cooked and prepared by our RC member, Mdm Salmah. Our senior residents gave the chicken rice the thumbs up and relished every single bite of the home cooked goodness.
Our sponsor also gamely took the microphone and belted out a few songs to entertain the senior folks. A natural charm with the microphone, he urged our senior residents to join him in the singing, using popular folk songs such as "Geylang Sipaku Geylang" as 'bait songs'. Although eventually none of our shy residents took up the offer to sing alongside our sponsor, his good humour and gregarious personality had them giggling and clapping along. After the usual monthly birthday song and cake cutting, the event concluded with 12 of our lucky senior residents each walking away with a large tin of biscuits as part of a simple lucky draw.
Writer's after-thought: What started out as a simple event to bring together the senior residents of Zone 'A' RC has since evolved to a monthly event that our senior residents look forward to. Over the past few months, I can't help but sense a greater camaraderie amongst our residents - I see them chatting in groups at the void deck, inviting one another to weddings of their children and cheekily teasing one another. This is a drastic difference from the first hotmeal we hosted back in Dec 06. Back then, residents sat in their own cliques and were generally quiet during the event. These days, they tease the RC members, sing the monthly birthday song with much gusto and happily wave to/ hug our MP when she arrives. On hindsight, I guess it must be things like these that keep the spirit of volunteers like us going …

Our second time sponsor, Springleaf NC treated our senior residents to a rare sight - seeing the chef from Casuarina Roti Prata shop flipping and cooking roti pratas right before their eyes. Topping it all off, our friendly MP, Er Lee Bee Wah rolled up her sleeves and served the piping hot pratas to each and every senior resident who attended the event. The simple but humble gesture touched many, who accepted the roti pratas, thanking our MP profusely.
Our senior residents were given an even bigger surprise treat at the traditional birthday celebration later during the event. Our thoughtful sponsors had bought a huge D24 durian cake from Angie the Choice for the birthday celebration! With food prepared and arranged with such thoughtfulness from our generous sponsor, it was definitely a hotmeal event that many will remember for a long time to come.

Opening of Senior Citizens' Corner and Inaugural Hot Meal Distribution for needy and senior citizens
Nee Soon South Zone A RC oversees the Senior Citizens' Corner at Blk 718, Yishun St 71 which was officially declared open on
5 Nov 06 by Engineer Lee Bee Wah.
To celebrate the opening, we also held our inaugural hot meal distribution that day. Our residents were treated to a hot meal which
was sponsored by RC members. During the event, we also gave out goodie packs consisting of biscuits, rice and other food essentials.
