Nee Soon South Community Day 2007 - 13 May 2007 |
|
| |
| Date |
: |
13 May 07 |
| Venue |
: |
Lower Seletar Reservoir |
Many from the baby boomer years may remember May 13th as one that bore heart-wrenching memories brought about by the severe racial riots that took place. However, this very same day in 2007 manifested a different historical significance in Nee Soon South. It was colorful, jubilant and alive with carnival celebration as the Minister of Health Mr. Khaw Boon Wan officially opened and launched the Water Venture Center at Lower Seletar Reservoir. Joined by Er Lee Bee Wah, Advisor to Nee Soon South GROs, a number of new launches also took centerstage - namely the Nee Soon South Official Website (neesoonsouth.org.sg); the inaugural quarterly newsletter of Nee Soon South "FLAVOURS of Nee Soon South" and a messaging / call-en mass mobile service.
The event also saw some 15 agencies such as PUB, NEA, MOE etc sending strong contingents with their CEOs in tow to compete in the dragon boat race. Not missing out on the fun and competition were also inter-constituencies teams from divisional and zonal assemblies who put up some surprising and good showing at the race.
Supporters and residents numbering some 6,000 took to the splendid afternoon event with food, fun and games amidst the picturesque lakeside ground peppered with bountiful entertainment, cheerful excitement and leisure. HDB Heartlanders were also given a meaningful and healthy route to the venue by participating in the mass walk-a-jog flagged off by Er Lee Bee Wah.
The good news is residents of Nee Soon South can now access the Lower Seletar Reservoir more conveniently with the possibility of a new adjoining carpark to be built and an array of water activities in this splendid surrounding. Drop by during the Dumpling Fest if you had missed out on the Dragon Boat Race.
