Dear Residents,
So it's once again time to ring in the new year with ideas and hopes on how we can improve the months ahead, set new goals and prepare to work towards them. Many of you I believe would have already started making plans for spring cleaning. Spring cleaning includes getting rid of the unnecessary things and starting afresh with a sparkling clean home. Of course, giving your home a thorough cleansing at least once a year is also beneficial to health and hygiene.
Do remember to call the Town Council and use its free bulky item disposal service for HDB dwellers. Leaving bulky items in the common area is not the right thing to do. It is unsightly, hinders your neighbours and poses a potential fire hazard.
The lunar year of the Dragon is undoubtedly an exciting year for many Chinese, considering that it is a symbol associated with all things good - luck, prosperity, royalty etc. Chinese New Year is a great time for social gatherings and food, but don't get too carried away. Over-indulging on snacks and rich foods can have repercussions, so do exercise self-control. As the saying goes, "Health is wealth". You would not be able to enjoy your wealth even if you are rich but in poor health.
Here it is timely for me to remind residents of the Ministry of Health scheme to address public concerns over medical fees. The Ministry's Primary Care Partnership Scheme (PCPS) allows eligible patients to receive subsidized outpatient treatment for acute and chronic conditions at General Practitioners and dental clinics near their homes. From January this year, the scheme has been improved such that the qualifying age for eligible patients is now 40 years instead of 65 years, and income criteria is now $1500 per capita monthly household income instead of the previous $800. More details can be found on http://www.pcps.sg. To apply, you can pick up a form at any government hospital, polyclinic, community centre and club or the Community Development Council (CDC). You can also download the form from http://www.pcps.sg/uploadedFiles/Patients/Apply_Now/PCPS%20Application%20Form.pdf. Completed forms should be sent to P.O. Box 680 Bukit Merah Central Post Office, Singapore 911536, with clear photocopies of the applicant's NRICs (front and back).
Do keep yourselves fit and healthy so that you may enjoy the festivities! Invite your non-Chinese friends to join in the celebrations. I wish all of you a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy year ahead. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
